My one of my favorite Artist of all time. Yayoi Kusama inspired my journey from Architecture to Fashion Textiles. I have been following her work for the past 10+ years, so it was a real pleasure to her recent show at the Broad Museum. Her use of repetitive geometric shapes are so unique, but at the same time are reminiscent of something from our childhood past.
Fullerton Arboretum, a stones throw from within Cal State Fullerton, houses a collection of plants that grow within different Eco-zones. My favorites are of course the Desert and Tropical Collections, the variation of shapes and color are so engaging. We recently came to sketch and draw on a weekday while I was Freelancing. I also drew a Site Map of the Arboretum, ...because, why not?
Architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro's Broad Museum sits directly next to the Disney Concert Hall. The Broad Museum , (founders Eli & Edythe Broad) is part of The Grand Avenue cultural renovation project in Downtown Los Angeles. The concept of the building is based on the "veil and the vault". The structural veil allows natural daylight in; where as the vault- the concrete body houses the core of the building. There are over 2000 Modern Art pieces that are on display, the majority of the pieces are on the gallery spaces on the third floor. The museum is free of charge for the public, reservations are suggested. Honestly like all of downtown LA, parking is the hardest part of getting here.
